They tried to slow me down, hold me down but I still got up and myself I found.
In this darkness, I still found the light and vowed to follow the truth that felt so right.
I get a lot of stick, people not liking what I am and it makes me tick, calling me all the foul names they know, and it makes me sick, for they think that their ways are slick.
What am I to do in this society, that doesn't accept differences and lets it part us, hurt us and harm us?
It aint even safe to walk the streets anymore, you don't know what stranger's going to knock at your door, and mama stays up with worry till four.
I don't know what to do anymore, youth acting like they're gangsters and they know nothing more.
The world's moving beneath my feet, but it feels like I'm not moving at all, and I raise my hands to the sky and my lord I do call.
Safe me from this misery, poverty, and the hatred I see.
Protect me from this humiliating reality.
Make them see; lord make them see, before their sins grow large as the sea.
