The Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) in Arabic over 1400 years ago. Since then, many great scholars have worked to translate its meaning into various languages. In this video, Owais Murad of Muslim Deaf, with assistance from his colleague, Khalid Ashraf, has attempted to translate the meaning of the Qur'an into British Sign Language, for the benefit of Deaf Muslims and non-Muslims in the UK. Surah Al-Fatiha (in English: "The Opening") is the title of the first chapter of the Holy Qur'an. It consists of seven verses, and is recited by Muslims during the salat (daily ritual prayer). The video's subtitles display the meaning of each verse in English, as translated by the scholar, Yusuf Ali (summarised below): 1. In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. 2. Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; 3. Most Gracious, Most Merciful; 4. Master of the Day of Judgement. 5. You do we worship, and Your aid we seek. 6. Then, when you are reassured, [when] you are secure, observe the prayer, perform it with its proper due, surely the prayer is for believers a prescription, enjoined, that is, an obligation, at specific times, that is, its appointed times are set, and so it should not be postponed from these times.
